Michael Malsam's series of pictures starting at [id=369946785] reminded me of a picture that I took the last time I prowled around one of my several hometowns, Waverly, IL in 2006.

I have previously posted a couple of pictures of that nostalgia trip. See [id=163985317] and [id=163986808]. More can be found by using the search term "road trip mccollum". The series starts here: [id=163811211].

Anyway, here's the bridge. It's located at the corner of Prairie and Curtiss streets. Not that it's hard to find - there really is just one stop light in town, and as the song says, it's always green*.

I can remember back about 60 years ago, when a steam locomotive went under the bridge, seeing the plume of exhaust from the smokestack getting interrupted by the bridge deck. As a kid, I thought that was really cool. But I never had the courage to actually sit on the deck on my bike and let a locomotive pass underneath!

*Garth Brooks: Now let me see if I can set the scene; It's a one dog town and he's old and mean; There's one stop light but it's always green; Nobody gets off in this town.

Nobody gets off in this town; The high school colors are brown; They can't drag main because it kicks up dust; The cars and their dreams are starting to rust; The high school dances are always a bust; Nobody gets off in this town.
