Wooden pin used with "Provo" type insulator.

Wooden pins were used on power-lines to enhance the insulation capabilities of the insulator and also to reduce costs of the lines initial construction. Unfortunately wooden pins were also subject to burning and decay making metal pins superior in the long run.

This pin is made of oak and pressure treated with water repelling preservatives and was found inside an enclosed brick substation with CD 283 "Provo" type insulators. The pin on the right is for size comparison.
