The ILLINOIS CENTRAL was in M of W repair mode in the early 1970's. This shot is from 1972 in Clarksville, TN. Along Riverside Drive were several timber trestles that paralleled the river. Here we see one of IC's steam powered pile drivers replacing pilings in the reconstruction of the bridges. These rebuilds were one of the first where the IC used laminated stringers on the top to add strength and save on costs. All of this is now gone. So glad I had a camera and took the time to record the scene. Wish I had only taken more around town and in my travels. So much disappears so quick. Take pictures..... need I say more?
