Back in the days of photographic challenges, especially in the area of ferroequinology, this was a moment long anticipated. Never got to see these units in operation, but to catch two in a lashup fullfilled another capture on film. ILLINOIS CENTRAL did not have but a handful of these General Electric U33C's in their fleet. Their fleet was mostly EMD equipment. I caught these two in Mt. Vernon, Ill. on one of many trips to southern Illinois photographing trains. Will have to dig into my files to get exact date (5/19/1984). They were either on their way to or from PRECISION NATIONAL CORPORATION located in Mt. Vernon. PNC rebuilt units for many roads. These two have seen better days and their useful life seemed over. Will have to check my info sources to see what happened to them. Just one of the reasons you should always have some sort of camera to record the neat things you encounter while out and about.
