The solid, cast aluminum cable shoe was found along an Ontario Hydro line built in 1910 using early Ohio Brass Austin Patent suspensions as original equipment. I've found several like this one, but no other hardware or the presumed other half. I read an old Electrical World article about the construction of this line that talked about special aluminum 'fluted cable shoes' that were to be used with the new Austin Patent discs. Unfortunately I cannot seem to locate it again. My question is, is this indeed the old, original shoe rather than something modern? It has a nice curvature to it and fluted ends, so it seems to match the description. Thee were other modern shoes discarded as well, but these ones were all found below the surface and have some pitting. All marked 1 (triangle) 0 and 1663A with a shop number. Anybody know what the other half looks like? |
