I never posted a good photo of this one after it was repaired. This spool can be dated by glaze colour, marking (6-1), and other details to late 1902 or early 1903. It is most likely from the very first production run of these . The very thin umbrella skirts and base skirt were soon modified to be much thicker later in 1903. The top skirt was pressed separately and applied to the main body using clay slip. The base skirt was glazewelded on. As far as I know this is the only surviving example of one of these early Locke spools . A number of broken parts of others have been recovered though.
