The Pelham Manufacturing Company took control over the Pelham Mill, SC area where over the past 60 years different early cotton mills stood on the property. The early mills were consumed by fire. The Pelham Manufacturing Company built the new mill, one more successful then the previous, in 1882. Pelham Mill grew steadily over the turn-of-the-century into the 1930s, when the mill shut down. In the 1940s, the abandoend Pelham Mill was destroyed by fire for the final time and its ruins were left on the Enoree River bank until they became a park post-1979.
