The Orr Cotton Mills were established in 1899 in Anderson, SC by J. L. Orr producing sheets, shirts and print cloth. Lowenstein Company bought Orr Mill in 1946 and in 1955 Lowenstein renamed the mill Orr-Lyons.

Orr Mill did not become part of the National Register due to alterations to the mill, homes and a highway cutting the original mill village in two parts. Since Orr Mill sht down, the community went downhill. Orr Mill was demolished in the mid-2000s, I got to see it before the wrecking ball hit and collected a few insulators used on the Piedmont & Northern Electric Railway branch to the mill. Todays state of Orr Mill is now a field of rubble in a decaying neighborhood.
