I inherited a couple of gallons of Castrol Super Clean Cleaner-Degreaser from the previos owner of my home so I decided to try it out on some soot encrusted H.G. CO. CD 145s even though the MSDS stated to avoid contact with glass. The one on the right was poped from the same pole and had the same buildup as the one in the "after" pic on the left/bottom. It worked like a charm. After a 24 hour soak in the full strenght stuff the soot and gunk just wiped off with a paper towel. even though this product has been discontinued, I was able to find it at my local hardware store. They always have the good stuff.
