Lancaster Mill (nick-named the "Million-Dollar Mill") was founded in 1895 by Leroy Springs in Lancaster, SC. The mill expanded with a new building twice the size between 1901 and 1903. W. B. Smith Whaley, a famous Southern cotton mill architect which designed many cotton mills, designed the new Lancaster Mill. Lancaster Mill has a clock and bell tower, the architecture of the towers is a well known style from W. B. Smith Whaley. (or Springs Mills, Inc.) which owned many large mills near the NC border in SC.
