The Graniteville Factory was one of the first cotton mills in South Carolina located in Graniteville, SC. The mill started production in 1847 and was owned by William Gregg. Today the original stone 1840s building sits on the old industrial site that has been modernized and is now abandoned. Lately, some newer additions to the mill are being demolished. A big attempt is being made to save the building, which is a big part of SC history. The mill and communtiy is listed on the National Register. http://www.textilehistory.org/IndustrialRevolution.html |
