Organized in 1892, the Gaffney Manufacturing Company had mills in Gaffney, SC. In 1908, the Gaffney Mills were powered by electricity from the Gaston Shoals hydroelectric plant on the Broad River. Gaston Shoals used M-3471, M-4140 and U-927D. Miliken bought the Gaffney Mills, making it one of their largest plants. The mills were abandoned and destoryed by a fire in the early 1990s. http://www.textilehistory.org/GaffneyManufacturing.html |
