The Fork Shoals Manufacturing Company opened a cotton mill and dam at Fork Shoals on the Reedy River in the early 1900s. Later the mill was owned by the Katrina Manufacturing Company. In 1913, a small hydroelectric dam was built on Cedar Falls downstream from the mill. The Fork Shoals Mill is being restored for residential use today. Cedar Falls hydroelectric power plant has been removed nearly 30 years ago, but the foundation of the powerhouse remains. I searched the area for any sign of insulators or the transmission line but didn't find anything. http://www.cityprofile.com/forum/general-city-discussion/abandoned-buildings-22208/index2.html |
