The Courtney Manufacturing Company built Newry Mill and the town of Newry. Newry Mill opened in 1894 and was led by William A. Courtney (one of the founders of the Pelzer Mills).

The mill is now very famous for many reasons. Its a tourist attraction believe it or not, so many people explored the place the town might as well give tours. Its also supposed to be haunted, this is just because of the old bell towers look. Newry Mill and the town of Newry are now on the National Register of Historic Places as the Newry Historic District. This mill will be restored in the future, hopefully for now it wont be a victim of arson.
