Another famous cotton mill in Greenville, SC were the Camperdown Mills. Camperdown Mill No. 1 opened in 1874 and Camperdown Mill No. 2 opened in 1875. The mills were on the Reedy River near the center of downtown Greenville. Around 1900 the mill produced gingham and plaid cloth which it would continue to make until closing. In 1930, the Camperdown Mills were sold to another family. By 1956, Camperdown Mill closed and was later demolished. If it was still around it would make Reedy River Park better then it is today. http://www.camperdownmill.com/Pages/CamperdownPostcards.aspx |
