In the 1830s, the Bivingsville Cotton Mill was built. It produced cloth for the confederate army during the Civil War. In the 1890s the mill was reconstructed to the building shown. It became known as Glendale in the 1870s-1880s under the Converse Company. After a change of hands over the years, Glendale Mill was closed in 1961.

On March 21, 2004 the mill burned down. Plans were being made to restore the building and revive the community but it all came to an end. It was a huge loss to the town of Glendale.

Glendale Mill was powered by hydroelectricity and steam engines from 1903 to the 1950s. The Duke Power Company provided additional electricity.
