Hello Bob, About a week ago I picked up this mystery object (see attached photos) from a local Antiques & Collectables shop and I'm not sure what it is. I don't think it is a Piano Insulator and have not seen enough Battery rest insulators to rule them out and my guess is it could be an "Ant Protector". Ant protectors were filled with water and used underneath the legs of the old food or meat "Safes" to prevent the ants crawling up the legs of the safe and getting into the food. When i was a kid my parents would simply put saucers of water under the legs of the Safe.

To be a battery rest or an ant protector it would have to sit concentric circle side down. Looking at it that way the base diameter is 85mm, top diameter 95mm, height 30mm, trough depth 15mm and the inner annulus 38mm wide. Right in the centre of the concentric circles is the letter W or M. This may give some clue to its manufacturer.

Do you have any idea what it would have been used for and if not could you post it on ICON to see if anybody can identify it for me.

Best regards, Noel. Dawson, Australia
