This is the uncommon 'bike tire Spratt' LRI along with a reprint from Cist's Weekly Advertiser showing an early ad for James Spratt's Lightning Protection business. This is from the March 28, 1848 issue of Cist's. Note the mention of "new style glass isolaters". James Spratt received his patent for the tab on the side of the Side Tab Style LRI in February 1850, much later than this ad. Oh, the Side Tab Patent was granted on Feb 5th, 1850. Anniversary today! The LRI is embossed over the tab: PATENT and on the reverse: SPRATT and on the tab: 1850 Unusual rounded edge to the top rim. Letters are in fancy serif style. An early Spratt.
