Artist is Viktor Ivanov and publishing house is Iskusstvo Moscow. This a great but extreamly dirty poster from USSR. It has mold spots, water stains a little tape and reaks of smoke. It needs to go into into a bath of baking soda and peroxide asap as it is making my eyes burn. The background is supposed to be white believe it or not! Subject is the May day holiday which was more or less the communist version of labor day. In the back drop you can see the menacing looking tower of Moscow University. There color under all the grim should be pretty bright for a poster of the early 1950's. A lot of posters from the early 1950's tend to have very studle colors and greay tones. |
