Cold and clear this late Fall morning. I watched this Bald eagle taking advantage of the early morning sun to get warm and dry off some. Heavy freezing fog overnight makes for an unhappy morning for large raptors like this eagle. The Klamath basin here in Southern Oregon has the largest Wintering migratory population of large raptors of any state in the Union except for Alaska. The milar type plastic bird guard as seen in the photo is becoming standard practice throughout Pacific Powers 7 western states service territories. Ugly, expensive and a pain to install and maintain but it is saving the lives of thousands of large raptors like the eagles, hawks, osprey and owl populations. |
