There are a lot of mold spots and stains on this poster so it is getting a bleach bath. I put the poster on window screen and fill the tub just enough to cover it. Then I add a few bottles hydrogen peroxide + a dash of backing soda to nutalize the acid in the paper. This soaks for at least 8 hours. Looks like I'm not using my shower today... The screen is important because the poster will fall apart along the fold lines if you try and pick it up out of the tub directly. To avoid this I pick up the screen with the poster on it. This is the last step in my DIY restoration before I send this to a pro www.posterfix.com. The poster will be mounted on a cotton/linen + acid free paper composit material to stablize the tares and allow for any color loss to be retouched. As you can see the left corner is completely off and was only held on by tape. It will be reatcched during the mounting process. When complete should look brand new. |
