Saw this recently while tooling along some backroad in uppermost NH with friend, Kathleen M. [id=310532489]. Back in the 60s (and I assume during prior decades) there were quite a few of these home-made clotheslines around. If my face wasn't plastered against the back windows of our family's sedan back in the 50s and 60s soaking in the images of phone openwire and the like as we travelled through New England, these poletop clotheslines were a sorta-frequently seen thing. A really big thrill to this kid! Most had 8 to 10-pin crossarms, always with glass insulators. Recycling at its best! And letting God have the pleasure of drying the family's clothes along with nature's unique scent upon all of them when brought into the house ;-) That sweet smell upon outdoor-dried laundry will never be duplicated. Some things you simply just not forget... JOE +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ |
