I've heard the phrase "it's raining cats and dogs", but never have I seen it raining wasps before. These white face wasps had decided that the inside my rain gauge would be the perfect place to set up home, they even started building a paper nest inside! I just took a small piece of duct tape and covered up the top, and now they are trapped like rats... Deciding whether to let them all loose about a mile from here, or stick them in the freezer for a couple hours then dump them out... Somehow, I believe that a mini ice-age is imminent, for them. I had recently hung two hornet/wasp traps near my hummingbird feeders, and they filled up really fast with all sorts of nasty flying stingy beasties, maybe the rain gauge wasps thought that they had pulled a real good one on me. Naaahhh, they're not THAT smart. Besides, the next time it rains, they'd be wishing they had flood insurance ;-) |
