Oregon Coast Scenic Railroad steam engine No. 2 in service, approaches a grade crossing in Barview, OR. The locomotive is a restored 'Heisler' type gear driven engine and drives 2 sets of wheels with shafts, differing from the more common 'Shay' gear driven locomotives. Both types were used as early day logging locomotives. No. 2 handles the present tour trains from Garibaldi to Rockaway, OR. but since there is no way to turn it around, has to back up the entire 4 miles to Garibaldi ! If they ever double head the No.2 with the new steam engine 25, I could easily become a railfan "foamer" ! ! ;) |
