I went through my many photographs, looking for one that best symbolizes the military experience. I have lots of "action" shots, lots of pretty, sexy, and dramatic shots. All the cliche images we see of military men and women and their hardware.

I thought this one best sums up the day-to-day we all go through in just getting the job done. Most would prefer getting out into the fight or anything that raises the pulse above the droning heat and dust. But that really is what the common denominator is out here.

To those away from home, missing family and putting up with dust, bugs, bad food, dysentery, sleeping on cots, in the dirt, freezing showers in winter and warm showers in 130 degree heat, to those who gave life or limb, Memorial Day is about the sacrifice some make so that others do not have to.
