I was watching this auction on eBay because, as I found a long time ago, I can learn a lot from watching auctions. I usually have a couple dozen insulators on my watch list at any given time even though I'm not buying. It's been a great way for a beginner to learn. Occasionally I watch something and I just don't "get it". This one sold a few days ago for $541.13. As far as I'm able to tell, this is an aqua [070] with a price guide value of "x1". I know that it's got some great character and that bubbles, seed bubbles, fizz, etc. can make for a desirable piece of glass. But I've never in my limited experience seen this much of a premium placed on this kind of character in an otherwise common insulator. What am I missing? Or were there just two bidders who were out of their minds? |
