Superscript numeral "3" is positioned right after the embossed word "PATENT"...this appears to be pointing to a footnote! :-) I realize this is just a 'ghost embossing' of the "3" in the 1893 date, but how often does this type of placing occur? Not very often, I am sure. I have another example from this same exact mold, but without any ghosting.
