A test run of Portland interurban car 4005 stopped on the track at the Oaks Park station, an amusement park. Taken in 1944 the (poor quality!) photo shows shop foreman Roy Reinke inspecting the wheels and motor trucks, likely for excessive heat. Car 4005 was one of 6 of these cars purchased second hand in 1940 from a line in Terre Haute IN. Note the ferocious looking bumpers and the loud air horn pointing ahead! This test run was done after 4005 had been rebuilt and repainted because it was wrecked in an accident. But 4005 was a 'jinx car' and sometime after this test run, was involved in another wreck, was totaled this time and had to be scrapped. |
