Latest tube amp project (with no tubes visible in the photo). A 95% faithful copy of a 1957 Fender Tweed Deluxe guitar amplifier. Tweed refers to the pattern of the Tolex covering on the wooden speaker cabinet. The cabinet and the chrome plated chassis were purchased, as my metal and woodworking skills aren't really up to par to meet the requirements for this particular project, which spanned several months from start to completion. Tubes are 5Y3GT rectifier, 12AY7, 12AX7, and two 6V6GTs, all of vintage USA production. "95% faithful" means that everything inside the amp, is the same, or very closely equivanent to the components used in the original amplifier. The only significant parrt which is not an exact replacement is the output transformer. The 12 inch speaker is a new production Jensen P12Q, which is the same as was used in the original, vintage amp. The "chicken head" knobs are white, the original unit had black knobs, but these were often changed by the owners to different colors, as was the red "jewel" on the pilot light. The only thing which is missing is an original "Fender" script logo. Soon.... |
