Here's a close-up look at a rare suspension piece made for B.C. Hydro by Canadian Porcelain. This ball and socket style insulator measures 10.75 inches in overall height and has a bell diameter of 13.75 inches! As reported by Bob Scafe in the March, 2010 issue of Crown Jewels of The Wire, the bell's shape produced so much wind drag that their swayings brought down several transmission towers and they were subsequently all removed from service. Thanks for rescuing a few strings from destruction, Bob! |
