We are now approaching the streetcar and getting ready to board. The 4 mile US 101 bridge to the Washington state side of the Columbia River looms large in the background. Astoria is the oldest known settlement west of the Rocky Mountains and is often referred to as the "San Francisco of Oregon". The climate is similar and the streets are very steep and hilly, with many old and restored Victorian style houses. Ocean going vessels regularly dock there.
