This is the Astoria, Oregon Riverfront Trolley. The restored streetcar was originally from San Antonio, Texas and was built by the J. G. Brill Car Company, Philadelphia in 1913. The Riverfront Trolley was concieved in 1999 when the city was offered a nearly 3 mile stretch of former industrial freight track along the deep sea port's Columbia River waterfront. The railroad to Portland merely cut back it's line to terminate at the former passenger depot at the east end of town and is now disconnected from the trolley tracks, per FRA rules. Since Astoria is situated on the Oregon Coast Highway 101, many tourists travel through there and the trolley has solved the problem of attracting tourists to Astoria's picturesque waterfront in a big way! So let's take a ride!. Click NEXT. |
