This is the first in a short series of picks depicting the "Judd Hollow Pump." This pump was hauled into Paria canyon by mules in the early 1940's. It was an ill-executed attempt to pump water from the Paria River up to the plateau to the north to water cattle. Several attempts were made, but very little came of any of them. Now the old pump and some pipes just sit in the canyon, rusting away. Again, the 20+ mile hike to reach this relic helps ensure that it remains intact for others to enjoy. There was not even one bullet hole! I suspect this old relic will be of interest to many ICONers, especially Brent B! |
