In mid-June this year, me and two friends backpacked for 6 days in Paria canyon in southern Utah. This is a "slot canyon," very narrow with sheer 1000 foot tall walls. A truly amazing piece of geography! This is the first of several pics. This one shows us backpacking into the canyon. You can get a sense of the magical light and incredible sandstone surfaces. Later in this series, I've included a series of shots of an old Fairbanks-Morse engine, hooked to a pump. It was setup in Paria canyon in the early 1940's, and soon abandoned. It has remained "in situ" ever since. It's an historical relic that might be of interest to ICONers. If you want to skip to those pics, look for entries in the "Fun Stuff" folder entitled "Fairbanks Morse." Enjoy! |
