Jack-o-lanterns (omphalotus olearius) **TOXIC**

These Jack-o-lantern mushrooms may appear similar to Chanterelles, but they are poisonous! They grow on old rotting stumps and at the bases of some trees in the forest. Look, but do not pick or eat!

This group is located in a small ravine just to the side of my driveway.

I posted this same photo [id=256582564; last year], but I wanted to juxtapose it next to the chanterelle photos, just to serve as a caution to any new 'pickers' out there..

One interesting and unisual feature of these mushrooms, is that when they are freshly gathered and taken into a dark room, the gills give off an eerie green glow.
