The same locomotive is seen on a different stretch of line. This is the only preserved line in Britain to have dual tracks. Although most preserved lines were originally dual tracked before closure they have reopened with a single track due to financial reasons as they are staffed by volunteers and rely on donations to keep them going. The GCR is unique in having two tracks and this enhances operation by allowing the railway to operate as a main line rather than a branch. Poles on preserved lines are often retained for visual effect and this is no exception here. Many of the insulators, including the red ones, are missing or have been used as target practice. |
