Photographing trains has long been one of my favorite pastimes. This photo is one of my favorites and brings back many good memories. Photo taken sometime in early 1980. A trio of L&N GP-7's, led by L&N #424, struggle uphill with a northbound freight at Baker's Station, TN. In a short time the train will enter Ridgetop tunnel and go onward up the grade to the town of Ridgetop. This is the Henderson Division of the Louisville & Nashville. The location is just northwest of Nashville, TN. What a great day for black and white photography !!! Nice drizzly overcast weather and an overall soft lighting makes the details stand out.
