This is an insulator display I setup atop a row of filing cabinets in the Registrar's Office at Southern Oregon University. This was in plain view of the public for several years, in a large open and very busy shared office (behind a counter so nobody could touch them). I kept a couple copies of Crown Jewels and a stack of my 'Insulator Collector' business cards with the display. Over the years, only a few dozen people commented on the display. When anyone expressed interest in "those glass things," I'd walk up to the counter, strike up a conversation and encourage them to dig their insulators out of their shed or garage. I handed out many business cards and offered free appraisals. Only a few people called me. They always had common stuff. Only once did I procure a decent piece as a result of that display. One of our professors noted my interest in insulators. He returned from a Mexico trip with a clear CD 155 Crimsa 45 as a gift for me. I still have it today. A couple years ago, I had to clear out this display for a remodel. I later got a private office with a huge window and deep windowsill. That windowsill is now covered with insulators. Unfortunately, the public doesn't get to see my display anymore. But I sure enjoy it! |
