Donated Museum Insulators in Use-Line Build

The corner pole in the previous photo being assembled. The line was built from donated power poles contributed by the Southern Pacific Railroad and the power company, Portland General Electric. The original reason for the poles was that we had to have support for the overhead wire that powers the rail cars. Since the poles were mostly 40 foot, we had space above the trolley wire. We knew that poles last longer when a bolt is inserted near the top to squeeze the wood, preventing rot. If your gonna have a bolt, you might as well have a crossarm and insulators! The line was built by museum director and old friend Greg Bonn and myself with some help by other volunteers. Here Greg has the old Hi-Ranger line truck extended to the limit to install the field side insulators. It was a warm day but he said he had a cold sweat!
