I found this in an attic of a house I once owned. It's made of wood and is 4 sided, a little over 36" long, has a metal pointed cap on one end and a flat end on the other with a hole through that end. On two (opposite) sides, it has a yard measured in inches with each inch broken down in halves and tenths of an inch. The third side has a logarithmic scale on it. The fourth side is blank other than the name of the company who made it burnt into the wood: "J.W.SOULS MAKER 43 BEEKMAN ST N.Y."

I'm thinking this may be some sort of loggers scale but I'm not sure. Any ideas?
