Pictured here is a beautiful American Ash tree down the street from my house. Since 2002 the EAB has infested and destroyed millions of these trees in Ohio alone. Scientists from the forestry industry have begun harvesting the seeds of these trees to freeze for the future because at this time, they have concluded that they have no way of stopping the EAB spread unless new techniques are developed and more budget is funded. Seeds from most all varieties are being harvested by volunteers and sent in to be frozen to hopefully prevent complete extinction until the EAB can be stopped. This specific tree does have the EAB grubs and hasn't shown the effects yet but will probably be dead within 2 more years. Most of the other ash trees on this street are already dead. Will these colorful trees dissappear? Hopefully not. My camera doesn't "quite" capture the reddish gold hue that the leaves are.
