This Westy U-690A was a common insulator used on the 22kV. lines of Mountain States Power Co. here on the Oregon coast. With the characteristic extended pin skirt of the Mershon glass insulator design, I tend to call these "mud Mershon's". They do have a long leakage path however, and worked well in the salt air and fog. This one was made in the Westinghouse Emeryville, California plant (Oakland) and has the E incused by the W logo and catalog number, indicating Emeryville. The other Westy plant was in Derry, PA. |
