Sellwood streetcar 1052, built in 1904, sits on the scrap track in Portland, OR. in 1940, after being replaced by electric busses. It is in very good shape and shows a recent paint job but no matter...Portland Traction Co. will burn it soon! Notice that there are no overhead wires on this track for the trolley poles to contact. It will never run again. One wonders how they could conciously do that but, they didn't envision this as a "classic antique" back then. To them, it was just outmoded junk and NOT symbolic of progress. We are fortunate that certain enthusiasts stepped in an managed to save a few of them. Visit any trolley museum today and you will see why. I will continue to squeeze a few streetcars into this album now and then just for contrast, they do run on rails yunno!
