Civil War Era Telegraph Pole

I cropped this print of a photograph taken by Captain Andrew Joseph Russell, one of the few known Army photographers of the Civil War. Full photo shows a derailed train near Brandy dated April 1864. The telegraph pole has a single sidepin near the top. Notice the slender diameter of the pole and the mottled texture of the wood, which suggests the bark was left on the tree.
