Exact location and date unknown. However I believe this photograph was taken in the 1870s and in the vicinity of what was known as (and maybe still is?) Storm King Mountain in the background. Note the distinct white porcelain insulators on the line in the foreground...four per pole on metal brackets with an unknown insulator design on top. Possibly these were "Elliot" threadless insulators. The latter were white and had gained much popularity in northeastern US and eastern Canada in the 1860s. If this location still can be identified and is accessible then it might be a very good source for hunting white porcelain threadless...at least! Added note: either a short crossarm with glass insulators or a wooden block example appear below the white porcelain ones. |
