This engine, GP-9 No. 101 is locally dubbed "The Cow" here on my local railroad, The Port of Tillamook Bay Railroad. Tillamook County, on the Oregon coast, is famous for it's dairy farms, and the reason 101 has a "Holstein" paint job. The Port Authority took the rail over from Southern Pacific, several years back. Note the next engine, still in use in the old S.P. colors. The line is a vital rail link between the coast and the Portland Metro area inland. It traverses some very rugged mountain territory to get there. The line runs within view of my house and after the 30 hour, 129 MPH windstorm and flood of 12/02/2007, I kinda started missing "The Cow"....or any train at all! To see the reason, click next. |
