Growing up on a 17 acre patch of land was great. Had all kinds of neat things to keep us occupied. Best part of all was the railroad that went right thru the middle of our property. Originally built in 1902 as the Western Division of the Tennessee Central Railway. This section of track was taken over in 1968 by the Illinois Central when the TC went bankrupt. Here we see GULF MOBILE & OHIO #720 on a work train reballasting the yard in the summer of 1974. All I had was a 110 Kodak Instamatic. Those small negatives gave way to grainy photos. Yet it preserved a memory that can no longer be taken. The railroad is gone and now a street. The back field is now apartments. But, the memories go on. How great is was to have a railroad in your own backyard. TAKE TIME TO TAKE PHOTOS..... MAKE TIME TO MAKE MEMORIES Tim Baggett |
