Elmer H. Eiting worked as an Engineer for the Southern Pacific for 45 years, much of it on the run from El Paso to Douglas. When he started in the mid 30's, steam engines were reaching their peak in size and horsepower. It took an uncanny mechanical ability (and a lot of coal) to keep these giants of the rails running smooth and steady.
