This was one of the most intense blizzards in New England history. Rivalled by the Great Blizzard of 1978 that took more of a shoreline route of devestation along the New England coastline. The 1888 storm raised total havoc destroying open wire lines in major cities such as New York, NY; Hartford, CT and other large communities as it travelled on a north-northeast swirling path of destruction. Here is a rare photo of a train that looks like it is stuck as a result of its aftermath. I trust all of the passengers and crew got home okay! Brrrrrr! |
