Here is one of CSX's brand new ES44DC "Evolution" series locomotives, in charge of [coal] train U-324, seen here cruising southbound through the small town of Ashland, Virginia, home to Randolph-Macon College. The 2nd unit on this train, CSX SD70M #721, is putting out smoke like it was a steam engine in a past life. It's dry enough in the Old Dominion that the ash from the unit's exhaust sparked several brush fires up and down the line. Current deliveries of new 'GEVO' locomotives are into the 5440's, and should run to 5499 ,starting at class unit #5200. #5500 begins the series some of the oldest soldiers on the road, CSX's B30-7's produced by GE, of which only a handful are left. |
